A USER'S GUIDE TO ELECTRONIC RESERVES

Introduction
Marquette University Law,and Raynor Memorial Libraries have implemented an Electronic Reserve module. Copyright and technical restrictions may prevent us from scanning certain materials.

Locating Electronic Reserve Items

All Electronic Reserve items are listed with the paper Reserve items in the Class Reserve module of MARQCAT. To view or print the Electronic Reserve material, it is essential that you access the Reserve module using a Web Browser. This enables you to select the proper document and load it on your screen for reading or printing.

  1. Access MARQCAT at: http://libus.csd.mu.edu
  2. Access the Reserve module by choosing either "Class Reserves by Professor" or "Class Reserves by Course Number".
  3. Follow the instructions on the screens to locate the items on Reserve for your course and professor.
  4. Find the title of the needed Reserve item.
  5. Look in the box in the right-hand side for the words ELECTRONIC RESERVE.
  6. Click on the linked title in the box on the left-hand side.
  7. Click on the text "display this full-text item" to retrieve the needed item.
  8. Read or print the document.

Accessing Electronic Reserve Material inside the Libraries
All computers within the libraries are set up to display Electronic Reserve material. If you print using the PrintWise system within Memorial or Raynor, you will get a fast, high-quality laser copy.

Accessing Electronic Reserve Material via the Campus Network
Computers with browser software connected to the campus network (residence halls, offices, etc.) have quick access to MARQCAT at: http://libus.csd.mu.edu and can locate needed Electronic Reserve items following the same instructions as above. To view the items, users will need to have the Adobe Acrobat Reader loaded on their computer. This reader is free and is available for downloading from the Adobe home page; click on the Get Adobe Reader button at the bottom of this page. Select the version for your computer's operating system and follow the downloading instructions. You only need to download and install this program once, and will then be able to access documents in the .pdf file format. Of course, if you want to print the documents, you will also need access to a printer.

Accessing Electronic Reserve Material from off-campus locations
Access from off-campus locations requires: a browser, an Internet Service Provider (ISP), the Adobe Acrobat Reader software, and a printer (if you plan on printing the item). If you search the Internet from home, you should be able to access the Electronic Reserve items for your courses.

Beginning May 16, 2005 off-campus users will have to enter their name and barcode number in order to access e-reserve materials. Further information can be found on the following page: http://www.marquette.edu/library/information/news/2005/reserves.html

Due to the literally infinite possible permutations of computer setups in the home or office environment, we cannot insure that every user from off-campus will be able to successfully use the EReserve documents. Users may notice slow loading and printing times due to such factors as connection speed, computer processor speed, printer speed, or other problem areas. We will attempt to assist off-campus users, but cannot guarantee a successful resolution.
